When you visit a museum, you probably enjoy looking at an object first before you look at its label. Chances are you are drawn to an object because there is something you like about its color, its shape, its texture, the material it is made of, the expression on a face, something odd or interesting about it, or the story it tells.

After you've looked at the object for a while, you might begin to ask yourself certain questions about it. Who made it? When was it made? And, what was it used for? That's when the label comes in handy.
