Have you ever had your own collection of something? Model cars or Barbie dolls, baseball cards or matchbox covers? Insects, stamps, coins, rocks, or CDs? Are they organized in any way? By color? By team? By country? Something else?

Some collections are enormous, for example, the Brooklyn Museum of Art has over one million objects in its collection, the Brooklyn Children's Museum has tens of thousands, and, the Brooklyn Public Library has several million books, CD-ROMs, videotapes, periodicals and more throughout its branches. When you have that many objects in a collection, you really need to have some kind of system for organizing them.
