The Paracas people lived on Peru's South Coast about 2,000 years ago. Much of what we know
about them today comes from studying the elaborate cloths they made. These textiles were
hidden for centuries in burial mounds, preserved by the dry desert climate of the South
Coast. The Paracas Textile presents an especially detailed record of Paracas life. The
costumes and jewelry that the border figures are wearing resemble real objects found in
the burial mounds. Many of the plants and animals shown can still be found on the South
Coast today. |
