For over 3,000 years, the native peoples of Latin America built rich and unique
civilizations. Then, in the 16th century, Europeans invaded the land. They fought with
powerful weapons the natives had never seen before, and brought strange languages,
customs, and a new religion-- Christianity. The natives lost many of their treasures and
traditions after the Spanish conquest, but they kept many others. Today, both native and
European traditions make up Hispanic culture. |
