When Javaka shows his work to the publishers, he has to spread it out for them to see!

Q. How big are the pieces you create?

A.I have one piece that is 4 feet by by 7 feet. And I have pieces that are 5 inches by 6 inches. So, it goes all over the place.

Q. How do they get translated into a book?

This is a manuscript for a new book. Javaka makes notes on it, to help him decide what he wants the illustration to look like.

These are sketches that Javaka does before he creates a large piece for the illustrations.

The final piece doesn't always look just like the sketches. Once it's done, it has to be photographed to be put into the book.
