Elizabeth Mann discussed her books with the Brooklyn Expedition Explainer Corps.
This book tells the story of how the Brooklyn Bridge came to be, and also describes fascinating facts about its construction!

 

Q. Did any of your childhood experiences inspire you to write about the Brooklyn Bridge? If so, what were they?

A. My father always wanted to know how things worked and my mother was a great storyteller, so I guess I have a little bit of both of them in me.Ê I was inspired to write a book about the Brooklyn Bridge because there weren't many books on the subject for kids.  



Elizabeth Mann wasn't always a writer -- she used to be a teacher!Ê In fact, teaching was what inspired her to write her first book,Ê The Brooklyn Bridge.
Q. At what point in your life did you decide to make writing a career?

A.When I had no book to read about the Brooklyn Bridge to my students, about five years ago.Ê
